The Feds did target Bonds and got him for behavior that would not have happened had he not been targeted. At the time he is accused of using steroids they were not even illegal. He was not prosecuted for illegal drug use. No matter what drug you have in your body you still have to hit the ball, the most difficult task in sports.
Barry Bond deserves a place in the Hall of Fame, even if he did use performance enhancing drugs. Drug use doesn't explain what Bonds did, nor does it explain away his achievements.
